The art of photography
"L'art de la Photographie"
For the 20th edition of Paris Photo, Citadelles & Mazenod publications are republishing L'Art de la photographie des origines à nos jours (the art of photography from its inception to our times) in paperback version. This is an opportunity to adopt a new perspective while revisiting our numerous photography collections.
Presented in chronological order, the ten chapters written by specialists of photographic history recount short stories since the discovery of the processes, right through to the evolution of the techniques until the acknowledgement of a new visual arts form. From the invention of the daguerreotype to photojournalism, interaction with society, science, industry and art, resulting in a variety of approaches and procedure changes.
The narratives are augmented by iconography featuring works alternating between great artists, amateurs, photographs of a scientific nature, photographs from anonymous sources and reporters. This selection of illustrations picked from several major public or private collections highlights the development of our visual culture.
